Glenn Hohnberg - Pastor Risen Church

I love being a follower of Jesus, husband to Kathryn. I’m the father of four boys: one at university, two in high school, and, sadly, one of our boys, Xavier, died in 2022 from cancer. Though our hearts still grieve, sometimes very deeply, we look forward to the resurrection hope when we’ll see Xavier again.

Some background

I grew up on a working farm in Central West NSW. We grew wheat, oats, barely, lucern and ran several thousand sheep. It was a lot of work, but plenty of fun too. I do miss the farm life.

After finishing high school I moved to Sydney to study at university. It was at university I was won to Jesus. I had grown up going to church but didn’t understands Jesus’ death for me, nor his Lordship over my life. This all changed as I was challenged to see what the Bible said and to read the Bible for myself. I read Mark’s gospel, one of the eyewitness accounts of Jesus life and was astounded by Jesus.

I started reading the Bible for myself and listening to amazing preaching that taught the Bible. I’d never heard anything like it. Not only that, but the church I was part of wasn’t afraid of hard questions or to engage on the challenging issues. ( We’ve tried to reflect this at Risen Church as well, with time for questions after Sunday sermons. )

In short, Jesus captured my heart and mind and my church showed me what it meant to live for Jesus.

Christian ministry

I worked in the IT industry for a few years. And then my current church invited me train for Christian ministry in a two year apprenticeship. After this apprenticeship, I completed four years at Moore Theological College in Sydney completed with honours, going through the studies as an independent (not aligned with a denomination.)

Since then I’ve worked in student ministry, helped revitalise some church congregations and I started and directed the City Bible Forum in Brisbane for 10 years. This is a non denomination ministry to support and equip professionals to reach out to the colleagues in the workplaces of Australia.

Now, lead I Risen Church. It is a great joy. You can see more about us on our Vision page and the who we are page.

Are you considering Jesus

I love to see Christians grow in their knowledge and love for Jesus. It is a great joy to disciple and equip Christians to serve others. But perhaps my greatest joy is helping people meet Jesus in the pages of the Bible and become part of the family of God, the church.

If you have questions about Jesus, the nature of God, Christianity or even just sneaking suspicions that there is more to life than what you already know, I’d love to have you visit us at Risen Church and explore those with us.

I would love be a great rock climber but that might be past me! Now, I hit the gym, take one of my boys indoor rock climbing and drink too much coffee.

I hope you’ll join us at Risen Church to grow in Jesus or discover him!
